Gasthof Bad Dreikirchen South Tyrol

Gasthof Bad Dreikirchen | Barbian, South Tyrol

High above the Valle Isarco between Brixen (Bressanone) and Bozen (Bolzano) you will find Gasthof Bad Dreikirchen. This 14th-century house has been run as a charming guest house by the same family for over two hundred years. It is located at a height of 1,120 metres amidst colourful meadows, high mountains, cool streams and fragrant woods. Views are equally impressive, as far as Chiusa and the Sabiona Convent to the villages and the peaks of the Sellasella and Sassolungo.

The hotel breathes the spirit of past times, yet with a contemporary flair to it. The rooms come with old timber floors, rustic simple furniture and modern designer bathrooms. Each one is different, but the scent of pine wood and sunny shades of yellow dominates. There are no televisions and no telephones. In the evening the tawny owl lulls you to sleep and in the morning you will be awakened by the first shafts of sunlight.

At the guest house you will find a library, a music room with grand piano, a cosy “Stüberl”, and a swimming pool in the middle of the lawn surrounded by chestnut trees. The dining room features stunning wall and ceiling paintings and surprises with a modern fireplace.

The house has hosted many famous guests, among them Sigmund Freud who wrote about Gasthof Bad Dreikirchen “The solitude was charming; mountains, forests, flowers, water, castles, monasteries and not a soul … which made dinner taste even better.”

The hotel is open from May to October and can only be reached on foot or by 4-wheel drive. Upon arrival at the parking a driver will wait for you and take you up the mountain.

✅ free Wi-Fi is available in the lobby and library ✅ free parking
