Riyad El Cadi Description

Tranquil and stunningly decorated, the Riyad El Cadi is situated in the heart of Marrakech's bustling medina just ten minutes walk from the central Jamaâ El Fna. The former home of a German ambassador is spread over seven 14th-century interconnecting houses. The building has turned into an elegant 'home from home', a glorious mix of chic, comfort, hospitality and art. Wander around the labyrinth of rooms, staircases, balconies and alcoves and you’ll discover magnificent Berber and Islamic art treasures - a true feast for culture-vultures.

The more epicurean, meanwhile, can enjoy the small pool with its jacuzzi, the library with a fine assortment of books on Morocco, a large collection of classical CDs, a television set in the Palm House sitting room or the hammam with a massage. Extensive terraces, equipped with tents and deckchairs, invite you to rest or sunbathe.

The 15 rooms and suites are spread out over seven interconnected patios. All differ in size, décor and layout, with some having the welcome addition of air-conditioning, plus a bath instead of shower. Larger suites also feature a separate child’s room, fireplace, sitting area and kitchenette. The Senior and Master Suites also have TV's. Unlike some traditional riads, the bathrooms are fitted to a high standard. Aesthetes will delight in the historic objets d’art that grace each room. Lie in bed staring up at the 18th-century painted ceiling in the Douiriya Suite, or step into the Chaouen Suite through an intricately patterned door, carved in the homonymous town in northern Morocco.

A continental breakfast is offered daily and can be taken on the rooftop terrace or in one of the salons. Expect breads, pastries, honey and jam, teas and coffee, fruit salad, homemade yoghurt, cheese and freshly squeezed orange juice. Traditional Moroccan and international dishes are available for lunch and dinner, and packed lunches can also be arranged.

• free Wi-Fi in the main courtyard • tours and excursions desk staff • airport transfer available (fee) • possibility to rent the whole riad • safety deposit box
